PH; The Key To Good Health

Are you ready to discover one of the most powerful keys to improving your health? Have you heard of “pH” before but aren’t really sure what the term stands for and why it matters to you?

Well, you’re about to discover why pH is one of the most important factors determining your health. Your body’s pH level profoundly affects your body’s ability to maintain good health and resist disease.

By understanding what pH means, and how it impacts your body, you can improve and maintain your health, naturally.

What Is PH?

PH is both a chemical and electrical variable.

The term pH stands for “Potential Hydrogen” and refers to the degree of concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution.

An ion is an atom or a molecule with an electrical charge. The charge is either positive or negative, depending on the number of protons (+charge) and electrons (-charge) in that specific atom or molecule.

Hydrogen has a positive charge.

To stay healthy our bodies require an electrical balance which creates, in turn, a chemical balance.

Each cell requires this electrical balance to do its job properly and thereby keep your body healthy.

Electrical imbalance leads to all kinds, and forms, of disease.

Since the pH of a solution is determined by the concentration of hydrogen ions, we can measure the voltage or electrical charge of any solution. This measurement reveals the conditions in which the cells must work.

The voltage of a solution, once measured, can be converted to a logarithmic scale which yields the pH reading.

The pH range in the human body extends from 0 to 14. Since pH is a logarithmic scale, a difference of one pH unit equals a tenfold difference in hydrogen ion concentration.

The Ideal PH Range

In his book Healing is Voltage, Jerry Tennant, MD,  explains, “A voltage of +400 mV [millivolts] is the same as a pH of zero. A voltage of -400 mV equals a pH of 14.”

pH Table Of Values

The pH of a solution is considered, in chemical terms, to be alkaline or acidic.  A pH of 7 is neutral (0 mV). Below 7 it is acidic and above 7 is alkaline.

Human cells function best between a pH of 7.35 and 7.45. In electrical, or voltage terms, this measures  between -20 mV to +20 mV.

Human cells thrive in a slightly alkaline environment of at least 7.35. To reproduce healthy cells an alkaline pH of 7.8 is needed.

Acidity Creates Disease

All disease occurs when the body’s pH is acidic. Most people in modern society have an average pH of 6.9 to 6.2 because of a diet high in acidic food and high stress levels.

pH Table Of Effects
According to Dr. Tennant, a solution with a positive charge, or acidic pH, is equivalent to a low voltage solution. He calls these solutions electron stealer solutions because their molecules scavenge for electrons.

Free Radicals

These scavenging molecules are called free radicals.  Dr. Tennant says, “A free radical is a molecule that is missing electrons. It is like a mugger looking for someone’s purse to steal. When a free radical steals electrons from the cell, it damages the cell.”

Antioxidants

A solution with a negative charge, or alkaline pH, has a high voltage, and is an electron donor.  The molecules in such solutions are able to donate electrons.

These molecules are called antioxidants. Dr. Tennant puts it like this. “ An antioxidant is a molecule capable of giving away electrons. Thus when your Mother says ‘eat your vegetables’ she is saying the vegetables contain electrons that are good for you.”

So, when we have an acidic pH, we are in low voltage, we are lacking electrons, and our cells are being damaged by free radicals.

Chronic diseases occur when these conditions go on long enough to cause cellular damage. The cells become unable to repair injuries.

Pain is a message telling us our cells are in danger.

By correcting our pH, we give our body the right conditions
to heal.

If the pH drops below 6.8 or rises above 7.8 death can occur. Fortunately, we have buffers in the blood to protect against large changes in pH.

When tissue pH deviates too far to the acid side (below 7.0) oxygen levels decrease and cells start to die.

Are You Vulnerable…?

As I said above, most people have a pH between 6.2 and 6.9 because of a high acid diet, lack of exercise and ongoing stress.

In such an acidic environment disease producing organisms thrive.

Or Immune?

Conversely, it is virtually impossible for a  disease to sustain itself when pH is slightly alkaline (7.0 to 7.4). At this level the body has a strong immunity to disease.

This explains why some people who are exposed to certain bacteria or viruses get sick while others don’t.

Effects Of Excess Acidity

An excessively acidic condition can cause muscles to constrict and inhibit the exchange of nutrients and waste products in muscle cells, causing fatigue, soreness, and pain.

In fact, a pH imbalance affects all cellular activity in the body and can lead to a wide range of degenerative diseases.

Among other things, acidic blood:

  • blocks vitamin absorption,
  • creates toxic build up in clogged cells,
  • slows organ functions,
  • prevents proper digestion,
  • creates excess gas and bloating,
  • causes unhealthy weight gain, and
  • speeds the aging process.

As in a car battery, acidic salts build up in the walls of the cells, causing them to stiffen and dry up.

Arterial Plaque Buildup

High acidity also allows LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) to build up faster in your arteries, damaging artery walls and creating plaque build up. The acid makes microscopic holes in the artery walls and the cholesterol fills in these holes. This is how plaque forms.

What are the causes of acidic pH?

  • processed and prepackaged foods,
  • sugar,
  • dairy products; milk, cheese, ice cream,
  • alcoholic beverages and / or drugs,
  • table salt,
  • meats,
  • toxic overload,
  • any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients,
  • a stressful lifestyle.

An acidic pH can:

  • decrease the body’s ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients,
  • decrease energy production in the cells,
  • decrease the body’s ability to repair damaged cells,
  • decrease the body’s ability to detoxify heavy metals,
  • allow tumor cells to thrive, and
  • make the body more susceptible to fatigue and illness.

Yeast And Fungus

Microforms like bacteria, yeasts and fungi are more likely to thrive in an acid body. They then add acidic toxins to the body, making conditions worse.

The Effect Of Stress On PH

Stress plays a significant role in creating excess acid. This is why Type A personalities —those who tend to live in a perpetual state of tension and rigidity—are prone to develop acidic conditions.

When you don’t get enough sleep or exercise, or are dealing with life-changing events such as loss of a job, divorce, moving etc., your body will probably have more acid than it can handle.

Maintaining An Ideal PH

There are two basic ways the body balances pH.

1) The lungs remove excess CO2 from the blood which helps to raise or alkalize the pH.

Deep conscious breathing increases the exchange of CO2 for oxygen, thereby balancing, or buffering, the pH in the blood.

2)  The kidneys help remove excess HCO3 (bicarbonate) from the blood, which lowers the pH so it does not get too alkaline.

Ultimately, the kidneys remove  H+ ions and other components of the pH buffers that build up in excess and cause the pH to become too acidic or too alkaline.

Drink Sufficient Water

Drink enough water during the day to hydrate your body and support your kidneys’ function of eliminating toxins.

A good starting point is to drink two liters of pure water each day. You can find more specific instructions here:

https://healthyinsma.wordpress.com/2009/11/12/water-cure/

Eat A Balanced Diet

To maintain optimum health your diet should consist of 60% alkaline forming foods and 40% acid forming foods. To restore compromised health, your diet should consist of 80% alkaline forming foods and 20% acid forming foods.

Please see the attached  list of acid and alkalizing foods.

By providing your body with the support it needs to maintain good health, you’ll be giving yourself a great gift, and creating the foundation for vibrant mental, emotional and spiritual health.

The Saturday Organic Market in Park Juarez

I really enjoy Saturdays mornings in Park Juarez. The Organic Market brings vitality and joy to this wonderful, natural setting.

I start the morning with a Qigong class taught by Maestro Arturo Hernández Gil. He is a wonderful teacher and I am learning so much.

Qigong Class In Park Juarez

As you can see, the morning sunshine, the trees and the fountain create a wonderful setting to tune into the subtle energies of the body.

After class we head for the Tianguis Organico for hot organic coffee and delicious croissants. Then we pick up lots of fresh organic produce, breads and cheese.

Here’s a short video Nataraj made of the Tianguis Organico. Enjoy!

Joy Has No Borders

Today I want to share with you a story that went straight to my heart, and brought tears to my eyes.

It is an expression of delight-full  innocence and child like simplicity that people all over the world, literally, can relate to.

It also powerfully illustrates how the Universe moves in the most miraculous ways to support those who dare to live in this innocence.

First enjoy the video! Then check out the story, in all its beguiling simplicity.

Here’s the story:

So there once was a man who wanted to travel so he worked for awhile, saved some money, and went on the road.

At one point a friend looked at him and said — Hey Matt — why don’t do you do that crazy dance that you do and I will video you.

So Matt danced and they put the video on the internet.

People from Stride Gum saw the video and said — hey Matt we want to sponsor you — how about you travel the world and dance…

So Matt danced some more and shared his experiences through his blog — http://whereinthehellismatt.com

And then Matt came home and people from all over the world emailed him and said they would have liked to dance with him and won’t he come and visit.

So Matt went to Stride and Stride said sure — we love what you are doing and once again they sponsored his trip.

When Matt is asked what the message of his videos is — he responds “Up to You, I’m Just Dancing”

Me, I love the way the video makes me feel — happy and connected and a bit in awe of how beautifully the Universe conspired to bring Matt the world travel he requested.

And you?  What message did you receive from this video and Matt’s story?

I hope this has given you a moment of joy and inspiration. Thanks Matt, for reminding us to “Be the change we want to see in the world.” Feel free to share a comment below.

Celebrating “Love”!

Ah! Valentine’s Day!    Chocolate!    Roses!

.

Valentines Image

A celebration of that uniquely human experience of “falling in love.”

After all, only humans have the capacity to love.

Love is what makes humans unique in all the Universe.

Isn’t it?

.
Hmmmm…

“Is one of us supposed to be a dog in this scenario?”  (Sally Albright, in When Harry Met Sally)

Perhaps we humans are not quite as unique as we like to think.

It’s easy to get caught up in the media blitz that tries to persuade us that love is “exclusive,” that it is an emotion that is only shared between two people. Thus we are encouraged to believe we require a partner to experience love. (And then it needs to be “demonstrated” with chocolates and roses and …)

Today I choose to focus on a love that is “inclusive.” Here is how David R. Hawkins, describes it.

Loving is a state of being. It’s a forgiving, nurturing, and supportive way of relating to the world. Love isn’t intellectual and doesn’t proceed from the mind; Love emanates from the heart. It has the capacity to lift others and accomplish great feats because of its purity of motive.”

Perhaps this is what Pascal meant when he wrote, “The heart has reasons that reason cannot know.” Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

By now you may be wondering, “What does this have to do with my health?”

Turns out this has everything to do with your health!

This “state of being” has a profoundly positive affect on your health.

While we know this intuitively, it’s fair to ask whether there’s any scientific evidence to support this claim.

As a matter of fact, there’s a wealth of evidence supporting the health benefits of “heart based living.”

In fact your heart is a source of intelligence that is in many ways superior to your brain. (For the record, women have known this for centuries.)

Listen as Dr. Deepak Chopra explains the effect of our emotional state on our heart.

And here’s Gregg Braden explaining how the heart energizes our thoughts to affect our physical reality, including our physical health.

If these videos pique your curiosity to learn more about your own heart, you’ll find a wealth of fascinating knowledge on the website of The Institute of HeartMath, a non profit organization that promotes “heart based living.”

Here is a page on their site about The Science of The Heart: http://www.heartmath.org/research/science-of-the-heart.html

How can you apply this knowledge towards improving your health, and your life?

Perhaps the easiest way is to make a conscious choice to focus on gratitude throughout your day. Many teachers encourage writing in a “Gratitude Journal” as a daily practice, for example.

That’s a great start. And then extend that feeling—that attitude of gratitude—for longer and longer periods throughout your days.

Not only will you be improving your health, you’ll be making the world a better place.

So, from my heart to yours, I wish you each day, a day overflowing with loving kindness.

There’s no reason why you can’t live everyday as a celebration of love.

Just go easy on the chocolate.

Your Health Is A Laughing Matter—Seriously!

I started out to write about the health benefits of laughter.

But I’ve changed my mind. I’m going to keep this short… just long enough to convince you that one of the best things you can do for your health, each day, is to laugh.

A quick peek at Wikipedia reveals that, “Solid scientific research demonstrates that laughter offers the following benefits:

  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Strengthening cardiovascular functions
  • Reducing stress hormones
  • Improving circulation
  • Increasing muscle flexion
  • Oxygenating the body by boosting the respiratory system
  • Boosting immune function by raising levels of infection-fighting T-cells, disease-fighting proteins called Gammainterferon and B-cells, which produce disease-destroying antibodies
  • Triggering the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers
  • Producing a general sense of well-being

OK, that’s good enough for me!

However, if you like to research, you’ll find a wealth of information online about humor, much of it very serious. Historical heavy-weights including Voltaire, Nietzsche, and Freud all theorized about laughter.

I’m sure their writings would make for some great laughs.

And how’s this for a real side-splitter, “The functional anatomy of humor: segregating cognitive and affective components.”

Now there’s formal Laughing Therapy. It even has its own medical term: “gelototherapy”, which is the use of humor as a form of therapy in the treatment of illness by getting the patient to laugh.

But in my experience, the best thing about “gelototherapy” is to Just Do It!

Here’s Your Doctor’s Orders!

Go to www.youtube.com and enter the name of your favorite comedian in the search box at the top of the page. Spend the next fifteen minutes allowing yourself to enjoy a feast of good belly laughs. Your body will be tickled pink.

But what if you don’t like to laugh? Don’t have a “favorite comedian.” Perhaps you don’t even know the name of a comedian.

No problem. Not laughing can be funny too.

Don’t believe me? Just watch this. But, no laughing while you watch!

What? You didn’t laugh? OK… let’s see you watch this one all the way through without cracking a smile.

Can Pure Water Cure What Ails You?

Can pure water actually be a powerful pain reliever?

Can it prevent, or even help to cure, degenerative diseases?

The research I will describe here suggests that it can.

It challenges some of the most cherished paradigms of modern medicine, and offers you much more power to support your own good health.

Dr. B

This information is based on research published by Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D., (Dr. B.), after successfully treating 3,000 patients for stress-induced peptic ulcer disease, using only pure water.

What I am about to share with you has radically changed my perception of the practice of health care, both as a medical doctor and as a wholistic health practitioner.

It also changed Dr. Batmanghelidj’s understanding of the role of medicine in the process of healing.

Dr. B. did not set out to “turn much of current medical practice on its head,” as The European wrote in its review of his research.

He was chosen by fate, unless you believe in coincidences.

Trained as an allopathic doctor in Europe, he established a modern practice in Iran more than 25 years ago. However, along with thousands of his countrymen, he ended up in prison because of his political convictions.

When a fellow prisoner suffered an attack of acute gastritis, Dr. B. pleaded with the prison guards to provide the medications he believed would cure the man. The guards refused.

Left to his own resources he administered the only thing he had available, pure water. To Dr. B.’s surprise the man recovered fully. Dr. B. continued to treat other prisoners, who had a wide variety of ailments, using only water. As a trained researcher he carefully recorded his results.

He was so devoted to his research with water that, when finally given permission to leave prison, he asked to remain incarcerated until his current research project was completed.

water drop

This early research, while in prison, lead Dr. B. to continue his investigations upon his release. He explored the role that water, or its absence, has in other types of pain (chronic and acute) and on other conditions, including:

  • asthma,
  • allergies,
  • high blood pressure,
  • depression,
  • rheumatoid arthritis,
  • excess weight gain,
  • and diabetes.

In an age of specialization, the depth and breadth of his groundbreaking research is truly astounding.

As I studied Dr. B.’s research I realized just how much we have lost touch with our own natural right to take care of our health. We are encouraged to live in a passive state in which we depend on “professionals” to “fix” us when we develop pathologic conditions that, often, we unknowingly induce ourselves because we lack fundamental knowledge of the principles of maintaining good health.

OK! I warned you that this is a paradigm shift.

I understand that it may not be comfortable for some readers. However, when you are willing to keep your mind open when looking at this research, which has been peer reviewed, you will discover some truly empowering information.

I have always held the belief that prevention should be the priority of every health care practitioner. I have put my attention on this since I began my practice. But prevention is only the first step towards vibrant health.

Good health is about much more than just avoiding disease; it includes feeling energized, enthusiastic and optimistic about life. The simple, yet vital, “joie de vivre” is a “symptom” of good health and it is available to each of us.

I have come to realize that there is always more you can learn about how to increase your physical energy and enhance your emotional well being.

Children today are not educated about the principles of maintaining good health, including the importance of drinking sufficient, pure water. Either are adults, for that matter.

On the contrary, millions of dollars are spent each year to persuade us to drink almost everything but pure water.

water cover

Yet Dr. B.’s ground-breaking research makes it very clear that your body needs adequate amounts of pure water. No other liquid can adequately meet this need.

He writes, “In advanced societies, thinking that tea, coffee, alcohol and manufactured beverages are desirable substitutes for the purely natural water needs of the daily stressed body is an elementary but catastrophic mistake. It is true that these beverages contain water, but they also contain dehydrating agents.”

Our bodies begin to suffer from dehydration at a very early age. This soon becomes a chronic condition, with dire consequences.

How do we know when the body needs water?

For me, one of the most startling things I learned from Dr. B. is that a dry mouth is not a reliable indicator of the need for water.  It is actually one of the last signs of dehydration. When we have a dry mouth, our body has already suffered damage because of the shortage of water.

Now this is where his research gets very interesting, and truly “paradigm shifting.” I will only summarize conclusions that he supports with extensive data and theoretical explanations.

Pain Is An Indicator of Chronic Dehydration

The most common sign that our body is experiencing a chronic state of dehydration is the sensation of   pain. The location will vary according to many factors, however, dyspepsia-heartburn, rheumatoid pain, back pain, angina pain, headaches (migraine) and leg pain when walking are some of the indicators that the body is dehydrated.

Allopathic medicine does not understand that these are indicators of a state of chronic dehydration. They are interpreted as pathologies of “unknown cause,” and treated with chemicals that are often designed to cut the “pain signal” to the brain.

This is analogous to removing the bulb in the “low oil pressure” indicator in your car. The signal goes away, it’s true. However, the condition now continues unobserved, until a more dramatic “signal,” usually the engine seizing completely.

Dr. B. provides a very detailed explanation about how chronic dehydration causes cellular damage that, in some cases, can become irreversible. He relates this damage to many medical conditions, including those listed above.

Your Body Needs Sea Salt Too

There is more involved in fully hydrating our bodies than just drinking water.  Our bodies require the water to be able to penetrate to the interior of our cells, which requires specific minerals.

Here is another paradigm shift for those who have accepted the prevailing belief that “salt is bad for you.” Dr. B. explains that it is vitally important to take salt and potassium, and to maintain the delicate balance between  these two elements.

He explains the important role of these two minerals in the regulation of the water content of the interior of the cell. When there is a chronic shortage of water and insufficient intake of salt, a high viscosity intracellular medium is created that makes it very difficult for the cell to accomplish the tasks it needs to do to maintain health.

We get potassium in our daily food from vegetables and fruits, but we do not get adequate amounts of salt. That is why we need to add salt to our daily diet. But not common table salt. Dr. B recommends taking unrefined sea salt because it contains about 80 minerals that the body needs.

Avoid Common Table Salt

He points out that “…ordinary table salt has been stripped of its companion elements and contains additives such as aluminum silica to keep it powdery and porous. Aluminum is a very toxic element in our nervous system. It is implicated as one of the primary causes of Alzheimer’s disease.”

For me, this was more than enough information to convince me to start drinking more water each day, and adding a little bit of sea salt to my diet. I carefully followed Dr. B.’s detailed instructions, which I’ll describe below.

The first thing I noticed, after a few days, was that when I did some yoga stretches, my muscles had become much more flexible.

I now take great comfort in knowing that I am reducing the risk of developing conditions that can lead to disease. I never knew that simply drinking sufficient water could accomplish this.

I am deeply grateful to Dr. B. for his research, for his courage in thinking independently, and for his commitment to publish his “paradigm shifting” findings. True medical pioneers, especially those in the field of natural medicine, face great hostility from the medical industry. Perhaps his courage comes from his years in prison where he faced the continued threat of execution.

He is a truly original medical doctor who brings honor, once again, to the oath that all modern Doctors swear, “First, do no harm.”

So, how can you apply this health enhancing information in your life?

I will share with you the simple water and salt prescription of Dr. B.

I’m sure you’ve heard that your body needs an absolute minimum of eight glasses of water each day. However, the precise amount depends on your weight. Here is how to calculate how much pure water to drink each day.

Drink one half ounce of water for every pound of body weight. For example, a 200-pound person needs to drink 100 ounces of water. But not all at once, obviously. Timing is very important.

The best times to drink water (clinically observed in peptic ulcer disease) are:

  • one or two glasses first thing in the morning before having anything else,
  • one glass half an hour before meals,
  • one glass two and a half hours after each meal,
  • one or two glasses before going to bed,
  • also, continually sip water during the day until you know that you have had the 8 minimum glasses of water during the day. Your thirst should be satisfied at all times.

Remember that alcohol, coffee, tea, and other caffeine-containing beverages (sodas) do not count as water.

As you increase your water intake, you will need to discharge more as well. This is only natural.  One way to know that your body is well hydrated is that your urine will become clear or colorless.

How To Change Your Water Drinking Habits

I always ask new clients, “How much water do you drink each day?”

If they have come to me to find relief from pain I can predict the response, every time.

“Not enough,” they’ll say, “I know I should drink more.”

So, Who Is Driving?

That always makes me smile, because it reminds me of the well-known story of the two old women who went for a drive. Both of them could hardly see over the dashboard.

As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red, but they just went on through.

The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself, “I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light.”

A few minutes later they came to another intersection, and again the light was red. Again, they went right on through, without even slowing down.

The woman in the passenger seat was certain that the light had been red this time, and she was getting very concerned. In fact, she was getting downright nervous.

At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was red again. And again they sailed right on through.

That was enough! She turned to the other woman and said, “Mildred, do you know that we just drove through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us both!”

Mildred turned to her and said, “Oh no—am I driving?”

Just Do It!

So, now that you know that you’re driving, how do you change a habit you know “you should” change. Every change begins with a decision.

Set the intention to drink a “little more water” every day. And decide to actually measure your water intake. I use a 1-liter bottle, and simply drink two of them each day. I always keep it near me when I’m at home.

Increase Slowly

When starting to increase your water intake, do so gradually, until urine production begins to increase to the same rate that you’re water intake has.  This is especially important for those with irregular or rapid heart beats.

Dr. B says: “When we drink enough water to pass clear urine, we also pass out a lot of the salt that was held back. This is how we get rid of edema fluid from the body… Water is the best diuretic that exists.”

In cases of edema, Dr. B.’s recommendation is: “The increase in water intake should be gradual and spaced out, but water should not be withheld from the body.  Salt intake should be limited for two or three days because the body is still in an overdrive mode to retain it. Once the edema has cleared up, salt should not be withheld from the body.”

Are You Taking Enough Sea Salt?

When you drink sufficient water,  as described above,  Dr. B. also recommends that you take about 3 grams of salt -half a teaspoon- for every ten glasses of water you drink.

It is easy to take this salt throughout the day. Just put a few crystals of sea salt on your tongue and let it dissolve. The best times to do this are in the morning, after drinking your water, then, before lunch, and again before going to bed.

Dr. B. explains the vital importance of salt for our health. It has many more functions than simply regulating water content. Here are just some of them:

  • Salt is a strong natural antihistamine.
  • Salt is an important “anti-stress” element.
  • Salt is essential in treating emotional and affective disorders.
  • Salt is important for preserving optimal serotonin and melatonin levels in the brain.
  • Salt is vital for maintaining muscle tone and strength. Lack of bladder control in those who suffer from involuntary leakage of urine could be a consequence of low salt intake.
  • Salt is vital for clearing the lungs of mucus plugs and sticky phlegm, particularly in asthma, emphysema, and cystic fibrosis sufferers.
  • Salt on the tongue will stop persistent dry cough.
  • Salt is vital for clearing up catarrh and sinus congestion.
  • Salt is vital in preventing excess saliva production to the point that it flows out of the mouth during sleep.
  • Salt is absolutely vital to making the structure of the bones firm.
  • Salt is vital for maintaining healthy sexual functioning and libido.
  • Salt is vital for reducing a double chin.
  • Salt is vital for preventing varicose veins and spider veins on legs and thighs.
  • And many other functions….

However, Dr. B gives us a clear warning:
“You must at the same time, not overdo salt. You must respect the optimum ratio of salt to water that the body requires. You must always make sure you drink enough water to wash the excess salt out of the body.  If your weight suddenly goes up in one day, you have taken too much salt. Hold back on salt intake for one day and drink plenty of water to increase your urine output and get rid of your swelling.

“Those with heart failure -or kidney failure requiring dialysis- MUST consult with their doctors before increasing their salt intake.”

Dr. B. has developed a rule of thumb to guide your daily salt intake. You should add to your diet about half a teaspoon of salt (3 grams) per day for every ten glasses of water (2 quarts) that you drink. Remember that the salt to water ratio is most important.
